One Night In August

The richness of her voice pierced the blackness of the alleyway-her words a soulful melody in a language I did not understand. I listened in quiet awe to the splendor of the strange ballad for what seemed an eternity, until suddenly from far across the other end of the alley I heard a male voice join her. His deep baritone complementing her sweet soprano. They sang different parts of the same song. The rhythms so sensuous it seemed as they were lovers. Unexpectedly they began singing together, harmonizing the odd tune. As they came to the crescendo of the ballad I found tears streaming from my eyes. I have traveled that alleyway home every night since, but never again heard the lovely sound of that one night in August.
I had posted my poetry on my own website which, since I have joined DA, has fallen by the wayside so I decided to put my poetry here.

Comment: I was actually listening to my Cantor and a choir member sing on the high holidays in '96 and it was so beautiful it inspired this poem. While it wasn't in August that this happened to me, August is the month of my anniversary so I chose that month for this poem. =)
